SAGD operations produce a bitumen-water emulsion to the surface, which is separated into
oil, gas, & oily water streams.
The oily water is called “Produced Water” (PW). It is collected for de-oiling and softening in order to re-use it as Boiler Feed Water. Produced Water must have ALL oil droplets removed so it can be reused for steam generation.
SAGD Oil Sands Online prepares the student for work in the oil industry by providing a comprehensive understanding of SAGD produced water de-oiling operations. We describe why and how produced water is treated to produce quality De-Oiled Water.

The program serves to develop an understanding of processing equipment and knowledge of plant safety to prepare for a career as a field operator, process operator and/or plant operator.
