The short version

We collect the details you give us when you buy a course, create an account, request a quote or contact us, plus analytics and advertising data about how this website is used. We use that information to deliver your training, process your orders, respond to you, and improve and promote our services. We do not sell personal information. You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by writing to info@contendo.ca.

1. Who we are

Contendo Inc. (Contendo, we, us) operates contendo.ca, including our online store and online training courses, and provides training development, technical writing and custom software services. We are based at 4621 Main Street, Belledune, New Brunswick, Canada.

This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information through this website, our online courses and our sales and marketing communications. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. Information we collect

  • Orders and accounts. When you buy a course or create an account, we collect your name, email address, billing address, phone number, company (if you provide one) and your order history.
  • Payments. Card payments are processed by WooPayments, which uses Stripe. Your full card number goes directly to the payment processor. We do not see or store it.
  • Course activity. When you take one of our online courses, we record your enrolment, progress, assessment results and completion so we can give you access and, where a course includes one, issue your certificate.
  • Enquiries. When you request a quote, fill in a contact form, subscribe to our newsletter or book a call, we collect the details you enter, such as your name, work email, phone number, company, job title and your message. When you email or call us, we keep a record of that conversation.
  • Job applications. If you apply to work with us, we collect the information in your application and resume.
  • Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, our analytics, advertising and security tools record technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page or ad that referred you, and an approximate location based on your IP address.
  • Information from other sources. If your employer enrols you in training, they may give us your name, email and role. We may also record business contact details you share with us at trade shows and conferences, or through professional networks such as LinkedIn.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • process your orders and payments, and send receipts and invoices;
  • give you access to your courses, track your progress and issue certificates;
  • respond to your enquiry, prepare quotes and schedule calls;
  • provide training and software services we have agreed to deliver to your organization;
  • send occasional updates if you have agreed to receive them (every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, as Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation requires);
  • measure how our advertising performs and show our ads to people who have visited our site;
  • understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it;
  • keep the site secure and prevent fraud and misuse;
  • assess job applications; and
  • meet our legal, tax and regulatory obligations.

We only use your information for these purposes, or for a new purpose you have agreed to.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This site uses the following:

Essential cookies make the site work and cannot be switched off without breaking it:

  • WooCommerce remembers your cart and checkout session (woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_*).
  • WordPress keeps you signed in to your account.
  • Stripe (through WooPayments) helps detect and prevent payment fraud (__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid).
  • Wordfence protects the site against attacks, and Google reCAPTCHA protects our forms against spam.

Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures site traffic and how pages are used (_ga, _ga_*). You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • HubSpot (HubSpot, Inc.) is our customer relationship management system. Its tracking code records your visits and, if you submit a form, links them to your contact record (hubspotutk, __hstc, __hssc, __hssrc). HubSpot also powers our enquiry forms.

Advertising cookies help us measure our ads and reach people who have shown interest in our services:

  • Google Ads (Google LLC) records when you arrive from one of our ads and whether you then contact us or make a purchase, and lets us show our ads to people who have visited this site when they browse Google and partner websites (_gcl_au and Google’s own advertising cookies).
  • LinkedIn Insight Tag (LinkedIn Corporation) measures how our LinkedIn ads perform, lets us show ads on LinkedIn to people who have visited this site, and gives us aggregated, anonymous reports about the professional characteristics of our visitors (li_sugr, bcookie, lidc, UserMatchHistory, AnalyticsSyncHistory, li_fat_id). LinkedIn does not give us the identity of individual visitors.

We may also share the email addresses of existing contacts with Google or LinkedIn, in a scrambled (hashed) form, so that we can show them relevant ads or avoid showing ads to existing customers. Write to us if you do not want your information used this way.

We do not use sensitive information, such as health information, to target advertising, and we do not target our advertising at children.

Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop the cart and checkout from working; blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not. You can also control the ads you see through Google My Ad Center, your LinkedIn advertising preferences, and the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada’s AdChoices program.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only as described here, and only as far as needed:

  • Your employer or the organization that bought your training. If an organization enrolled you in a course, we share your enrolment, progress, results and completion records with that organization.
  • Service providers that help us run our business: HubSpot (customer records, forms and email); WooPayments by Automattic and Stripe (payment processing); Google (analytics, advertising and spam protection); LinkedIn (advertising); Microsoft (business email and document storage); our website hosting and email delivery providers. We choose providers that commit to protecting personal information and to using it only to provide their services to us.

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it, or as part of a sale, merger or reorganization of our business, in which case the information would remain protected by the commitments in this policy.

6. Where your information is stored

Some of our service providers store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is outside Canada, your information is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

7. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as long as the law requires. Order and invoice records are kept as long as Canadian tax law requires, generally six years. Course completion records are kept so that certificates can be verified, or for the period agreed with the organization that enrolled you. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

8. How we protect it

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections to this website, a website firewall and login protection, payment processing by a PCI DSS compliant provider, and access limited to the people who need it for their work. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, as the law requires.

9. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • stop sending you marketing emails (you can also use the unsubscribe link in any email);
  • stop using your information for matched advertising audiences; and
  • close your account and delete your information, unless we need to keep it for a legal, tax or contractual reason.

Send your request to info@contendo.ca. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on it, and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

10. Training and software we deliver for organizations

When we build training or software for an organization, or host a training management system for them, we may handle information about their employees and contractors. We process that information on our client’s behalf, under the terms of our agreement with them. If your employer uses one of our systems and you have a question about your information, please contact your employer first. We will help them respond.

11. Children

Our website, courses and services are intended for working adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or the law change. We will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
